Kathy Kerron
Kathy Kerron, Pine Desert Equestrian’s owner and the main trainer, has been in the Hunter Jumper business for over 30 years.
Kathy’s love for horses began at an early age. At the age of 10 she began working at a local Hunt Club in exchange for lessons. Finally at the age of 11 she talked her parents into buying a horse. Kathy spent every bit of free time at the barn taking in all the information she could to learn about horses and riding. She competed very successfully throughout her junior years in the Hunter, Jumpers, Dressage and won several AHSA medals in Hunt Seat Equitation and Dressage Seat Equitation. After graduating from high school, Kathy attended college and worked at three (3) hunter jumper stables. In 1978, she began her full-time training career at Sunwood Farm in Beaverton, Oregon. In 1992, Kathy and her husband Don moved to Bend, Oregon. A year later, Kathy became an amateur while her children were young and was very successful in the Adult Amateur & Amateur Owner Hunter and Jumper divisions and earned the World Champion Hunter Rider, NW Region award in 1994. In 1997, she began teaching and training again at which time Pine Desert was started. In 2005 Kathy became a certified USEF “r” judge in the hunter and equitation divisions. Kathy has taught beginning thru advanced level riders and trained horses thru all levels of hunters and jumpers, some of which have gone on to compete on the east coast. Kathy has produced riders who have gone on to become professionals in the Hunter Jumper industry, riders who have won the AHSA zone 9 medal finals and horses who have gone on to become AHSA champions throughout the country. One horse in particular is Fine print who was AHSA year end champion in the small Jr. Hunter division in the early 90’s.
Kathy offers customized programs for each individual horse and rider at all levels. Her positive training technique promotes a fun and educational environment along with a high standard of excellence and show ring preparation for those of you wanting to compete. Lease horses may be available for those who do not own their own horse, but want to continue their training.
